UPDATED: Coronavirus (COVID-19) and ACGME Site Visits, Educational Activities, and Other Meetings
NOTE: This information was updated as of April 6, 2020.
In response to the ongoing presence and impact of COVID-19 across the US, the ACGME had made additional adjustments to the scheduling and conduct of its accreditation and recognition site visits, Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Program, and meetings sponsored or facilitated by the ACGME.
Since the main defense against the novel coronavirus at this time is mitigation, the ACGME’s goal in making adjustments is to protect the health and well-being of the public, the graduate medical education (GME) community, ACGME volunteers, and staff members by decreasing the possibility of travelers contracting and carrying the virus. The ACGME also recognizes that many clinical sites will be engaged in preparation for and/or treatment of patients with COVID-19. The ACGME will continue to balance risks of these activities with its duty to fulfill its mission.
Given all these considerations, the table below identifies the decisions that have been made to date regarding various ACGME activities. Updates will be provided as they become available. If you are scheduled for an accreditation/recognition site visit you will be notified with a new date for a virtual visit.
