Accreditation of Sponsoring Institutions and residency and fellowship programs, as well as recognition of the osteopathic components of accredited education programs, by the ACGME is a voluntary process of evaluation and review performed by a non-governmental agency of peers. The goals of the process are to evaluate, improve, and publicly recognize institutions and programs in GME that are in substantial compliance with standards of educational quality established by the ACGME. Accreditation benefits the public, protects the interests of residents, and improves the quality of teaching, learning, research, and professional practice. The ACGME’s policies and standards support the ACGME mission.
