The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is committed to the principle that discrimination and harassment is unacceptable and must not be tolerated. The ACGME expects that participants in the greater graduate medical education community will be able to work and study in an atmosphere that discourages discrimination and harassment by colleagues, supervisors, teachers, peers, other staff members, and patients. This principle applies in all areas of graduate medical education, including employment and training. The ACGME Institutional Requirements include requirements for implementing this principle on a local level. The ACGME applies this principle to its own staff, to program faculty and staff members, to residents and fellows, as well as to all visitors, invitees, vendors, contractors, consultants, and others who do business with the ACGME via policies contained in its Employee Policy Manual.
